MATERIALS:
COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply ("Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 28 ounces of No. 686 Paddy Green and 16 ounces each of No. 253 Tangerine and No. 649 Olive Green.
Crochet Hook, Size H.
Afghan measures 46 x 70 inches. Motif measures 4 inches square.
MOTIF: (Make 187) With Paddy Green, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st rnd: Ch 3, make 15 dc in ring. Join to top of ch-3. Break off and fasten.
2nd rnd: Attach Tangerine to joining, ch 1, sc in same place, * ch 8, draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook to measure 3/8 inch, draw up a loop to same height in each of next 6 ch, yarn over and draw through all 8 loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten-shell made; skip next dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with a shell. Join to first sc-8 shells. Break off and fasten.
3rd rnd: Attach Paddy Green between the 2 center loops of any shell, ch 1, sc in same place, * ch 7, sc between the 2 center loops of next shell, ch 4, sc between the 2 center loops of next shell. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4. Join to first sc.
4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining, * sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in next ch—corner; sc in next 3 ch, sc in next sc, sc in next 4 ch, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last 4 ch. Join-60 sc. Break off and fasten.
5th rnd: Attach Olive Green to joining, ch 1, sc in joining, sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner. Join. Break off and fasten.
Block to measurements.
Using Olive Green and picking-up the back loop only of each sc (front loops remain free on right side), sew 11 x 17 Motifs neatly together.
BORDER 1st rnd: With right side facing, attach Olive Green to back loop of any corner sc, working in back loop only of each sc, make 2 sc in same place, * sc in each sc across to within next corner sc, 3 sc in corner sc. Repeat from * 2 times more; sc in each remaining sc, sc in same place as first 2 sc. Join. Break off and fasten.
2nd rnd: With Tangerine repeat first rnd. 3rd and 4th rnds: With Paddy Green repeat first rnd. Press lightly.
