Crocheted Pineapple Doily Pattern

MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS "BIG BALL" BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. A.105, Size 20: 1 ball of No. 1 White or No. 61 Ecru;

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 9.
Doily measures 14 1/2 inches in diameter.
Starting at center: Ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st Rnd: Ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in ring, thread over and draw through all loops on hook - starting cluster made; (ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 3 tr in ring, thread over and draw through all loops on hook-cluster made) 7 times; ch 2, dc in tip of starting cluster to form last loop.
2nd Rnd: Make a starting cluster in loop just formed, (in next loop make cluster, ch 9 and cluster) 7 times; make a cluster in first loop used at beg of rnd, ch 4, d tr in tip of starting cluster.
3rd Rnd: Ch 1, sc in loop just formed, ch 3, sl st in last sc made-picot made; make 5 sc in same loop, (in next loop make 6 sc, picot and 5 sc) 7 times; make 6 sc in loop used at beg of rnd. Join to first ch of first picot.
4th Rnd: In first picot loop make sl st, ch 5 and dc-starting V st made; (ch 2, skip 4 sc, cluster in next sc, ch 7, cluster in following sc, ch 2, in next picot make dc, ch 2 and dc - V st made) 7 times; ch 2, skip 4 sc, cluster in next sc, ch 7, cluster in following sc, ch 2. Join to 3rd ch of ch-5.
5th Rnd: Starting V st in starting V-st sp -V st over V st made; (ch 2, 10 tr in next ch -7 loop-start of pineapple; ch 2, V st, in next V-st sp-another V st over V st made) 7 times; ch 2, 10 tr in last ch-7 loop, ch 2. Join.
6th Rnd: * V st over V st, ch 2, tr in next tr, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 9 times; ch 2. Repeat from * around. Join.
7th Rnd: * V st over V st, (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 9 times; ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join.
8th Rnd: * V st over V st, ch 3, skip next ch-3 loop, (sc in next ch-3 loop, ch 3) 8 times. Repeat from * around. Join.
9th Rnd: In first V-st sp make sl st, ch 4, dc, ch 1 and dc-start of another pineapple; * ch 4, skip next ch-3 sp, sc in next loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) 6 times; ch 4, in next V st make dc, (ch 1, dc) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4. Join to 3rd ch of first ch-4.
10th Rnd: Ch 4, * dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, in next dc make (dc, ch 1) twice; dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 4, skip next ch-4 sp, sc in next loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) 5 times; ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4.
11th Rnd: Ch 3, * (dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc) 5 times; ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 5, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-5. Join to top of ch-3.
12th Rnd: Ch 3, dc in joining, * (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times; ch 5, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 3 times; sc in next loop, ch 5, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5. Join.
13th Rnd: Ch 3, skip joining, dc in next dc, * (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 5 times; ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop, (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5. Join.
14th Rnd: Ch 3, skip joining, dc in next 21 dc, * ch 6, skip next sp, sc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 6, dc in next 22 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 6. Join.
15th Rnd: Ch 3, skip joining, dc in next 21 dc, * ch 6, skip next sp, sc in next loop, ch 6, dc in next 22 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 6. Join, break off and fasten.
Now complete pineapples as follows:
First Pineapple: With right side facing, attach thread to last sc worked on the 15th rnd.
1st row: Ch 5, dc in same sc where thread was attached, ch 5, skip next sp, dc in top of ch-3, dc in next 9 dc, (2 dc in next dc) twice; dc in next 10 dc, ch 5, in next sc make dc and d tr. Turn.
2nd through 5th rows: Skip first d tr, in next dc make sl st, ch 5 and dc; ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make 1 dc in next 2 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook-1 dc decreased; dc in each dc across pineapple, decreasing 1 dc over last 2 dc; ch 5, in next dc make dc and d tr. Turn.
6th and 7th rows: Skip first d tr, in next dc make sl st, ch 5 and dc; ch 5, (dec 1 dc over next 2 dc) twice; dc in each dc across pineapple to within last 4 dc, (dec 1 dc over next 2 dc) twice; ch 5, in next dc make dc and d tr. Turn.
8th row: Skip first d tr, in next dc make sl st, ch 5 and dc; ch 5, (dec 1 dc over next 2 dc) 4 times; ch 5, in next dc make dc and d tr. Turn.
9th row: Skip first d tr, in next dc make sl st, ch 5 and dc, ch 4, (dec 1 dc over next 2 dc) twice; ch 4, in next dc make dc and d tr. Turn.
10th row: Skip first d tr, in next dc make sl st, ch 5 and dc; ch 2, dec 1 dc over next 2 dc, ch 2, in next dc make dc and d tr. Turn.
11th row: Sl st in first dc, ch 3, skip next ch-2 sp, skip next dc and the following ch-2 sp, sl st in next dc. Ch 5, turn. Join with sl st in same place where first sl st of 11th row was made. Break off and fasten.
Second Pineapple: With right side facing, attach thread to center of the bar of the last d tr made on the first row of last pineapple.
1st row: Ch 2, dc in same sc where the last d tr was made on first row of last pineapple, ch 5, dc in next 10 dc, (2 dc in next dc) twice; dc in next 10 dc, ch 5, in next sc make dc and d tr. Turn. Starting with 2nd row, complete pineapple as before. Make 5 more pineapples as before.
Next Pineapple: Work as for last pineapple until the last ch-5 has been completed at the end of the first row; dc in the sc used at beg of first pineapple, h dc in 3rd ch of first ch-5 made at beg of first pineapple. Turn.
Starting with the 2nd row, complete as for previous pineapple, skipping at beg of 2nd row the h dc instead of a d tr. Do not break off at end of last pineapple. Ch 1, turn.
EDGING * In last loop formed at tip of same pineapple make sc, 2 h dc, ch 4, sl st in last h dc made, 3 h dc and sc; sl st in first dc made at beg of 10th row; working in loops along left edge of same pineapple, (in next loop make 3 sc, picot and 2 sc; sl st in top of dc at base of next loop) 8 times; in next loop make 3 sc, picot and 2 sc; sl st in last dc made at end of first row, sc over bar of last d tr made on first row, sc in next ch-2 sp of next pineapple; working in loops along right edge of same pineapple, sl st in first dc made at beg of first row, 3 sc in next loop, ch 1, sl st in last picot made on last pineapple, ch 1, sl st in last sc made, 2 sc in same loop of pineapple in work, sl st in top of dc at base of same loop, (in next loop make 3 sc, picot and 2 sc; sl st in top of dc at base of same loop) 8 times. Repeat from * around. Join, break off and fasten. Starch lightly and press.
