Light, lacy, and full of vintage charm — this doily blends classic flower motifs with wheel-like spokes to create a timeless centerpiece.

Circles of flowers and wheels are joined to make a doily that is approximately 18 inches in diameter. The model was made from size 20 mercerized crochet thread and a number 8 steel crochet hook. Abbreviations: rnd (round) Ip (loop) ch (chain) sc (single crochet) sl st (slip stitch) p (picot) sp (space) tr (treble)

Rnd 1: Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring, ch 5, sc over ring, (ch 4, sc over ring) 4 times, ch 4, sl st in first ch of ch 5 at beginning (6 sps).

Rnd 2: Sc over ch 4 lp, * ch 4, a 3-joined-tr over same ch 4 lp, ch 4, sc over lp, sc over next ch 4 lp, repeat from * around, sl st in place of beginning, cut and fasten off.

Join flowers as follows: At 6th petal, after 3-joined-tr, draw out a lp, insert hook in 3-joined-tr of any petal of first flower, pull lp through, ch 1, sl st in top of last 3-joined-tr, ch 4, sc over ch 4 lp to complete second flower, sl st in place of beginning. Cut and fasten.

At the 12th flower, make an additional joining to first flower to close circle of flowers.

Circle of Wheels Rnd 1: Ch 11, join with sl st to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 23 de in ring, (24 dc in all), sl st in top of ch 3 first made.

Rnd 2: * Ch 13, (sk 5 ch nearest hook), dc in each of next 3 ch, ch 4, sl st in top of last dc to form a p, dc in each of next 5 ch, sl st in second dc of rnd 1, repeat from * 11 times. Cut and fasten.

Join thread in ch 5 at end of any spoke of wheel, ch 7, * (tr, ch 5, tr, ch 3, tr) in same ch 5 lp, tr over ch 5 at end of next spoke, ch 3, repeat from * around, sl st in 4th ch of ch 7 first made.

Join wheels as follows: At 12th spoke, work (tr, ch 3, tr, ch 1) over ch 5 lp at end of spoke, sl st in second, third and 4th ch of ch 5 of open shell of completed wheel, (ch 1, tr, ch 3, tr) over ch 5 at end of 12th spoke of second wheel, sl st in 4th ch of ch 7 first made. All joinings are made the same. Have 4 open shells between the joining of the wheels. At the 12th wheel make an additional joining to the first wheel to close the circle.

Doily Center - Rnd 1: Make wheel as before, fasten thread in ch 5 at end of any spoke, ch 7, tr over same ch 5, ch 3, draw out a lp, insert hook in center of flower petal, pull lp through, ch 1, sl st in last ch of ch 3 just made, ch 2, tr over ch 5 lp of wheel spoke, ch 3, tr in same place, tr over ch 5 lp of next spoke, ch 3, tr in same place, ch 3 and pick up second flower, repeat around, sl st in 4th ch of ch 7 first made. All spokes will be used and all flowers attached.

Rnd 2: Fasten thread in center free petal of flower, * ch 6, tr in center of next petal, ch 6, tr in center of first free petal of next flower, ch 6, sc in center of next petal, repeat from * around, sl st in place of beginning.

Rnd 3: Ch 9, tr in same place as last sl st, * ch 3, sc over next ch 6, ch 3, (tr, ch 5, tr) in next tr, ch 3, sc over next ch 6, ch 3, (tr, ch 5, tr) in next tr of next flower, ch 3, sc over next ch 6, ch 3, (tr, ch 5, tr) in sc of center petal, repeat from * around, sl st in 4th ch of ch 9 first made.

Rnd 4: Sl st into third ch of ch 5 lp, ch 9, (tr, ch 3, tr) over same ch 5 lp, tr over ch 5 of next open shell, (ch 3, tr, ch 5, tr, ch 3, tr) over same ch 5, repeat around, sl st in 4th ch of ch 9 first made.

Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 4.

Rnd 6: The circle of wheels is joined in this rnd. Ch 5, sl st in second, third and 4th ch of ch 5 of second open shell of wheel, ch 1, tr over ch 5 of doily, ch 4, tr in same place, tr over ch 5 of next open shell of doily, ch 4, tr in same place, ch 1, sl st in second, third and 4th ch of ch 5 of next open shell of wheel, ch 1, tr over ch 5 of doily proper, ch 4, tr in same place, complete an open shell over ch 5 of next open shell of doily proper, repeat around, sl st in 4th ch of ch 5 first made.

Small Fill-In Motif: Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring, * 4 sc over ring, ch 1, draw out a lp, insert hook in third ch of ch 5 of open shell, pull lp through, ch 1, sl st in last sc made, repeat from * twice, sl st in sc first made. Cut and fasten.
