You can find this doily on my website: https://doilybox.com/floral/gift.php
This doily measures 8 inches in diameter. I used size 10 crochet cotton and a size 12 hook. Since the doily is quite small, I think a size 10 hook might work better.
I think this design would look beautiful with a gold candle in the center, making it a lovely decoration for the holidays.
I would rate this pattern as intermediate to advanced. I found the instructions a little difficult to follow, so some experience with crochet would be helpful.
I have not blocked this doily, and I may simply iron it if needed. I am not a fan of blocking because I feel that pulling too hard on the stitches can weaken them.
In my opinion, an intermediate or advanced crocheter should be able to produce a well shaped doily without needing to block it. I know that may sound a little harsh, but I believe that proper tension and consistent stitches are skills worth developing early on. Blocking can be useful, of course, but I feel that beginners should focus on improving their technique rather than relying on blocking to correct their work.
