Wreath Crochet Doily Pattern

MATERIALS: Number 30 mercerized crochet thread and a size 12 needle were used to make this beautiful doily. It measures approximately 32 inches in diameter. If you using today's crochet cotton #10 and a hook size of 8 or so it will probably be more like 50 inches in diameter. I would bow to the person who completes this.
Abbreviations: Ch: (chain ); (stitch); dc (double crochet ); sc (single crochet); sl st (slip stitch ) p (picot); lp (loop); tr (treble) thread over twice, work off 2 lps at a time; dtr (double treble)—thread over 3 times, work off 2 lps at a time; sps (spaces); rnd (round); sk (skip); hdc; (half double crochet)— thread over as for dc, insert hook in st and pull lp through, thread over and pull through all lps at once.
WREATH — (All the leaves are made the same).
Leaf: Ch 23, sc in the second ch from hook, ch 3, dc in next third ch, ch 3, tr in the next third ch, (ch 3, dtr in the next third ch) twice, ch 3, tr in the next third ch 3, dc in the next third ch, ch 3, dc in the last ch, ch 4, dc in the same place, ch 3, and repeat the same operation down the opposite side of the leaf to place of beginning, sl st in sc first made. This is the vein portion a the leaf. Sl st into the ch 3 lp, ch3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the same place, dc in the next dc of the vein, ch 4, fasten down for a p, in each ch 3 lp. work (3 dc, dc in the next st or the vein, ch 4 and fasten down for a p) 6 times. This brings the work to the point of the leaf. In the ch 4 at the point work 3 dc, ch 4 and fasten down for a p, 3 dc in same place, dc in the next dc of the vein, ch 4 and fasten down for a p, repeat the same down the opposite side of the leaf, sl st in place of beginning, cut thread and fasten.
Outer Circle of Leaves: Complete one leaf. In making the second leaf join the 10th and 11th ps to the first and second ps of the leaf already made, join each succeeding leaf in the same way. Complete 35 leaves, joining the 35th leaf to the first leaf made, to close the circle.
Joining the Circles to Form the Wreath: Ch 11 (the first 3 chs count as 1 dc), sc in next p of same leaf, ch 14, dc in base of next leaf, ch 8, sc in next p of same leaf, repeat around, join with a sl st in the third ch of the ch 11 at beginning of rnd, dc in base of any leaf of the outer circle, sc in each of the next 5 chs of the stem, pick up the p of the leaf, sc along the stem to the next dc, dc in the base of the next leaf of the Outer circle, continue around, sl st in place of beginning, cut thread and fasten.
Border Motif: Design for Finishing Edge of doily. Complete one leaf. In making the second leaf, join the 14th and 15th ps to the second and first ps of the leaf already made. In making the third leaf, join the 13th, 14th and 15th ps to the third, second and first ps of the leaf already made. The 4th leaf is joined the same as the third leaf. In making the 5th leaf, join the ps at the point of the leaf to the p at the point of leaf of the corresponding motif, and also join the 14th and 15th ps to the second and first ps of the 4th leaf.
Flower Center: Ch 7, join with sl st in first ch to form a ring, ch 7, one treble ring(ch 3, tr in the ring) 8 times, ch 3, sl st in 4th ch of ch 7 at beginning of rnd. There will be 10 open spaces.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 5 dcs next ch lp, dc in the next tr, repeat around, join with a sl st.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each of the next 3 dcs, ch 4, fasten down for a p, sc in each of the next 3 dcs, ch 4, fasten down for a p, repeat until 7 ps are made, at the 8th p, pick up the base of the leaf, at the 11th p, pick up the base of the second leaf, at the 14th p, pick up the base of the third leaf, at the 17th p, pick up the base of the 4th leaf, at the 20th p, pick up the base of the 5th leaf; sc along the 3 remaining dcs, to the place of beginning. This completes one of the border motifs. 18 such motifs are required.

NOTE: A cluster at the beginning of a rnd is made as follows: Ch 4 (counts as a tr), holding the last lp of each tr on the hook, work 3 trs in the same place, thread over and pull through all lps on the hook. This completes a cluster at the beginning of a rnd. The regular routine clusters are made as follows: Holding the last lp of each tr on the hook, work 4 trs in the same place, thread over and pull through all lps on the hook.

Counting each ch and each tr as a chain-head, there will be 700 chain-heads in the rnd. This divides evenly by 20, so that the 35 leaves of the wreath will be evenly spaced.
Rnd 21: Pick up the p at the point of any leaf of the inner circle of leaves, sl st in next 20 chain-heads of foundation row, pick up the p at the point of the next leaf, sl st in next 20 chain-heads of foundation row, repeat around. Cut thread, and finish off neatly.

Counting each tr as a chain-head, there are 300 open sps of 5 chs each and one tr chain-head, or a total of 1,800 chain-heads. This divides evenly into 18 sections of 100 chain-heads each, and the eighteen border motifs are attached accurately as follows:
